Monthly Account Fees

Classic account — Lloyds’ standard current account with no monthly fee. Includes a debit card, Lloyds app and online banking, and access to Lloyds’ UK branch network.

Club Lloyds — £5/month (raised from £3/month in June 2025 — the first change to Club Lloyds pricing in over eight years), waived if you pay in £2,000 or more per month. The main benefits are access to the Club Lloyds Monthly Saver (a high-rate regular savings account), a choice of lifestyle benefits (cinema ticket, digital magazine, or similar), a £100 interest-free overdraft buffer, and preferential rates on some Lloyds savings products. Worth considering if you’re already paying in £2,000+ — essentially free in that case.

Lloyds Packaged Accounts

Lloyds offers several packaged accounts (Silver, Gold, Platinum) that bundle insurance and lifestyle benefits — typically European or worldwide travel insurance, AA breakdown cover, and mobile phone insurance, with more comprehensive cover at higher tiers. Monthly fees increase with the tier. We were unable to independently verify the exact current fee for each tier this session — confirm the latest pricing directly on the Lloyds packaged accounts page before applying, as packaged-account fees are revised periodically.

Whether these represent value for money depends on your circumstances — compare the included insurance against standalone policy costs before switching. If you already hold travel insurance or breakdown cover, a packaged account may be cheaper to hold as a Classic or Club Lloyds account instead.

Overdraft Fees

Lloyds moved from a flat 39.9% EAR to a risk-based pricing model in 2025, with changes phased in through August 2025 and February 2026. The new representative rate is 29.9% EAR (variable), but your personal rate — based on an affordability assessment of your credit history and how you manage your accounts — can range from 19.9% to 49.9% EAR.

Key points:

  • Interest is charged daily on the overdrawn amount (above any interest-free buffer)
  • Unarranged overdraft usage (going beyond your agreed limit) is charged at the same personalised rate
  • Club Lloyds and Halifax Reward accounts get a £100 interest-free overdraft buffer — you only pay interest above that
  • You can view your overdraft limit, personalised rate, and current balance in the Lloyds app

Tips to reduce overdraft costs:

  • Set up low-balance alerts in the Lloyds app so you’re notified before going overdrawn
  • Consider switching to a bank with a lower overdraft rate if you use your overdraft regularly — some challenger banks offer lower rates or interest-free buffers

Foreign Transaction Fees

Lloyds charges 2.99% on all non-sterling card transactions, covering:

  • Purchases made abroad on your debit card
  • ATM withdrawals outside the UK
  • Online purchases billed in a foreign currency

For a £1,000 holiday spend, this works out at £29.90 in non-sterling fees alone.

Avoiding foreign transaction fees:

ProviderOverseas Fee
Starling BankFree (ATM: free up to £300/month)
Chase UKFree (ATM: free up to £1,500/month)
Wise debit cardLow conversion fee only
MonzoFree within allowances

A common approach is to keep a Lloyds account for UK day-to-day banking and use one of the above purely for travel.
