England
From September 2026, the rules changed: all children in households receiving Universal Credit now qualify for free school meals in England, regardless of household earnings. The previous £7,400/year net earnings threshold no longer determines whether a child is eligible — it now only decides whether a school receives “targeted” or “expanded” FSM funding for that pupil, so it’s worth applying even if your earnings are above £7,400.
