Is a Rewards Card Worth It?

Example (simplified, at an assumed 1% rate). At 1% cashback, £5,000 of annual spending returns £50, £10,000 returns £100, £15,000 returns £150 and £20,000 returns £200. Check the actual rate, any cap and any annual fee for the card you are considering. The cashback only counts if you pay the balance in full each month.

High-Value Opportunities

Larger purchases and switching transactions (insurance renewals, utility switches, broadband, big-ticket items, travel bookings) are where a cashback site is most likely to pay a meaningful amount. Check the current amount or rate on the site before you buy.

Don’t let cashback change your spending behaviour. These schemes work best when you earn rewards on purchases you’d make anyway.
